From the Executive Director...

With a new year comes new MHDC projects, all designed to further support our members in their interoperability and health equity efforts. For example, our members-only Executive Forum kicked 2023 off with a great opening session featuring Micky Trepathi and Alex Mugge. Getting their expert insight into data standards, data exchange, and collaborative health IT sets a solid foundation for the remaining monthly sessions. Learn more about our upcoming topics, guest experts, and how to register HERE.

MHDC is currently in the planning stages with the Network for Excellence in Health Innovation (NEHI) to produce a three-part webinar series focused on using data to understand, align, and innovate health equity efforts. This series will be essential for hospitals/health systems, providers/clinicians, health plans, associations/government agencies (including regulators), community health centers, pharmacy, and others focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). Stay tuned for more information to come soon.

Do you wish there was a way to easily discover “hot off the press” industry news? Thanks to our resident Data Diva Janice, we now provide weekly quick industry updates as presented to the Data Governance Collaborative (DGC) on our YouTube page - they're listed by date or search for #massdatagov. Participation in the DGC is now included with MHDC membership for payers, providers, and select other non-vendor members. Email the DGC for more information.

Last but not least, MHDC has a new look and website for the new year. Be sure to check it out at mahealthdata.org! We are also working on improving the look and feel of our Spotlight Analytics Tableau dashboards. For those interested in learning more about Tableau, HealthDataViz is offering a variety of training. If you're interested, the videos are posted on YouTube and announced on Twitter - look for our DGC hashtag #massdatagov to find them. READ MORE...

To quote the Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange (WEDI), "It’s Raining Regulations." NEHEN called the latter part of 2022 "the Season of Letters." Either way you look at it, this has been an unprecedented period of activity on the standards and regulatory front, with more to come. READ MORE...

      CMS Advancing Interoperability &

      Improving Prior Authorization NPRM

The Advancing Interoperability and Improving Prior Authorization Processes Proposed Rule was released by CMS on December 13, 2022. It has a standard 90 day comment period, scheduled to close on March 13, 2023. Everything in the rule is scheduled to go into effect on January 1, 2026 (or the first new plan year thereafter). The new proposed rule is similar to the previous frozen rule from December 2020/January 2021 and covers mostly the same items at the top level:
